please visit www.ladymanners.net/vacancies for further details. find us on @ladymannersschool earlier this week, we welcomed a visitor from rolls royce to lady manners school. stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) club benefitted from a session led by this experienced engineer. it was explained that qualities highly valued by rolls royce are enthusiasm and communication skills, and it was these qualities that were explored during the session. the students were tasked with challenges that required problem solving skills and team work. our 'stemmers' were asked to consider the problem, then to discuss their thoughts in a scientific way and – importantly – to listen to the ideas of their team-mates. the groups then had to design their own experiments that would lead them to a solution. it was a challenging and fun session, the principles of which will continue to be explored in future stem club meetings. during the afternoon, our guest went on to visit year 12 physics students to advise on entry into engineering careers through various routes including post-gcse and post-a level apprenticeships, internships and graduate programmes. many thanks to rolls royce for providing this valuable insight to the world of engineering. find us on @ladymannersschool the lady manners school parents' association is meeting on tuesday 5 june at 7.00pm in the school library. if you're a parent or carer of a student at lady manners school, please consider going along. the parents' association are very friendly and really need your help. find us on @ladymannersschool our equestrian team has been active during the half term break. nine riders made the team's first ever visit to compete at the world famous hickstead showground in west sussex. the riders had previously qualified to compete in three eventers' challenge finals and a mixed height final. following the 'warm up' classes on the first day, charlie goddard, lucy hainsworth, tilly hardie-bright and amelia maycock were first up to compete on the second day (sunday) of the competition – in the 80cm jumping with style (jws) qualifier in the international polo arena. they rode well but incurred too many time penalties to feature in the top 8 teams. charlie, lucy, tilly and amelia then completed a testing course in the eventers' challenge arena in a national final. it was a packed class with 41 teams coming forward. clear rounds were few and far between, but our team managed to record a faultless team score. the final placings for this are then dependent on closeness to an optimum time. our riders finished with an amazing third place in this huge class! next up were the 90cm jws team of kitty blundell, josh blythe, eve codman and jessie elfleet-ward. a few unlucky errors unfortunately put us out of the running. the final class of the day was a mixed heights final. we had two teams out of a total of 26 competing for glory in this class. 70cm riders jumped first, followed by 80cm, 90cm and finally 1m riders. josh, jessie, amelia and lauren maycock recorded a quick and clear team score. eve, charlie, lucy and tilly, meanwhile, had a couple of poles between them so were knocked out of the running. however, josh, jessie, amelia and lauren went on to take a well-deserved second place. on the final day of the competition (monday) saw josh competing as an individual in the 1m jws qualifier. he performed some fantastic show jumping but lost out in the technical second round. kitty (battling an injury from the previous day), eve, jessie and lauren competed strongly in the 90cm eventer's challenge final finishing just outside the top 8 (of 34) teams. the last class of the day was the 1m eventers' challenge final in which we were represented by eve, lauren, jessie and josh, once again finishing just outside the top 8. what a wonderful weekend, with some amazing performances from the lady manners school riders. very well done to all who competed. find us on @ladymannersschool vacancies data protection geographical excellence sports celebrations biology olympiad success update: site development -- -- full calendar -- high visibility | sitemap | email us general enquiries | lower school | upper school | sixth form | parents' association | | contact us © lady manners school by e4education
